Service Description
This is a learn to sweep row camp format for all middle school and high school age (12 to 16) students that want to try out rowing for the first time or those with some experience. This camp will include both on-land and on-water activities. Learn about how rowing is a great sport to earn college scholarships for girls and boys. One out of every two high school girls that rows in high school can typically earn a scholarship. Key elements of the program include the following. (1) “Messing Around with Boats” (2) FUNdamentals of rowing with terminology and principals (3) Land program with video teaching and rowing machine "Erg" training to learn mechanics and fitness (4) Fitness and sustenance training (5) FUNdamentals of the stroke (6) Rowing terminology and boat safety (7) On water four days (8) Some land fitness training (9) Have Fun (10) End of week Social • Monday 6/12, 3 pm to 6 pm at Linear Park Palm Coast • Tuesday 6/13, 3 pm to 6 pm at Palm Harbor Golf Course boat launch • Wednesday 6/14, 3 pm to 6 pm at Palm Harbor Golf Course boat launch • Thursday 6/15, 8:15 am to 11:15 am at Palm Harbor Golf Course boat launch • Friday 6/16, 8:15 am to 11:15 am at Palm Harbor Golf Course boat launch, with a family pool party from 6 pm to 8 pm at Yacht Harbor Resort. Things to bring to the training 1. wear athletic shorts and shirts that are tighter fitting to the body. Loose clothing in a rowing boat can cause a hand or finger to catch the loose fabric during the rowing stroke. 2. Hat and sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle. 3. Water shoes, boats are launched by stepping in the water 4. You will need to sign a PCRC Risk Acknowledgement Waiver before you can start the class. Form attached to this course link in the sign-up. The price of this program PROVIDES ONE-MONTH OF A JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP FREE within 6-months of the youth completing this LTR program. All youth participants of this class will receiving a FREE PCRC T-shirt You will come away at the end of the class having a good appreciation for the sweep rowing stroke and how to row as a team with others in a boat. This can lead to being part of the youth rowing program in Palm Coast.
