Service Description
This is a learn to row sweep rowing for adults of all ages that want to try out rowing for the first time or as a refresher to improve skills. This course will include one on-land/indoor and three on-water sessions. This LTR starts on May 8, 2024 with the first session indoors. • Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 5 pm - 7 pm at the Palm Coast Community Center for on-land training • Saturday, May 11, 7:00 am, first on the water class at Palm Harbor Golf boatyard • Wednesday, May 15, 2023, 5:00 pm, at boatyard. • Saturday, May 18, 7:00 am, at boatyard Key elements of the program include the following. (1) FUNdamentals of rowing with terminology and principals (2) Land program with video teaching and rowing machine training to learn mechanics (3) User’s manual (4) FUNdamentals of the rowing stroke (5) Rowing and boat safety (6) On water technique and practice as a crew – with coach teaching from a coach boat (7) Let's make sure to have fun Bring to the first session training 1. Wear athletic shorts and shirts that are tighter fitting to the body. Loose clothing in a rowing boat can cause a hand or finger to catch the loose fabric during the rowing stroke. 2. Wear athletic shoes like running shoes. Bring to the on-water training sessions 1. Wear athletic shorts and shirts that are tighter fitting to the body. 2. Hat and sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle. 3. Water shoes, boats are launched by stepping in the water 4. Note, there are bathrooms at the Palm Harbor Golf Shop 5. You will need to sign a PCRC Risk Acknowledgement Waiver before you can start the class. Form attached to the course link. 6. During the first 1/2 hour of the On-the-Water sessions, you will be given the opportunity to row on a land simulator boat at the boatyard to practice your rowing stroke before going on the water. The price ($150) of this program provides One Month (first month, $65 value) of a PCRC Adult Membership FREE when signing-up for a new membership within 6-months of completing this this LTR program. All adult participants of this class will receive a free PCRC T-shirt You will come away at the end of the class having a good appreciation for the sweep rowing stroke and how to row as a team with others in a boat. This will allow all participants to integrate to the PCRC member rowing activities where additional coaching and teaching takes place including learning to scull.
